A Message from the Alumni Association
Abdi Billow — Alumni Association Committee Member
I am Abdi Billow, one of the alumni officials, a committee member. We started the alumni association way back in 2023, and we held a very big alumni meeting at Bomas in 2024, culminating in the preparation of the 60th anniversary, which was held in Wajir last year at the school.
As a result of that, we have planned to hold an Annual General Meeting to deliberate on the way forward — to look at the challenges facing the school, the progress made, and the role alumni can play in improving the standards of education at Wajir High School, in terms of provision of infrastructure, mentoring, and so on.
Being old students of Wajir High School, we are duty-bound to give back to the school in any way one can afford. We are not saying you must be rich to provide money. Several alumni from Wajir High have gone on to different roles in society — some are doctors, engineers, counsellors, and mentors. We want each person to give what they can in their capacity. Even mentoring students is a very big achievement; going there for talks and encouragement is welcome, because the students currently in the school are looking for role models — and we have to be those role models.
We have planned our second AGM for this year. Whatever the final date, we are asking members to turn up in large numbers. Register as an alumni member — the registration is just five hundred shillings, which is not much — so that you can participate in future elections and take responsibility. Some of us are getting old and would like to hand over our positions to the young people coming up; you cannot be elected, or elect, if you are not a member. We urge alumni to participate in large numbers and register as members. The official date will be communicated. Thank you very much.
